Apols to those of you who received an email with a draft copy of this blog post over the weekend – you’d think I’d be able to tell the difference between the words ‘Preview’ and ‘Publish’, but no…. Hopefully this morning my coffee intake will have improved things.
I was very excited to spot a discussion of this Kate Spade
owl bag on Twitter late last week and had to zip on over to
Kate Spade’s online store to check out what all the fuss was about. I’m not always convinced by owl bags – the fine line between playfulness and silliness is often blurred – but in this case, Kate Spade has maxed out in the style department: without compromising on glamour or urban chic, this most owlsome of bags is graced with a smidge of frivolity as well.
The straps ooze vintage Chanel charm, and the subtle owlish features fit perfectly with the bag’s retro materials and convenient size: as per the official website blurb, this “dazzling mesh night owl handbag is perfectly sized to fit your smart phone, lipstick and a tin of mints.” Obviously there would need to be room for snacks too, but if you’re short on volume, you could opt for a couple of space-saving, colour-matching Ferrero Rochers for blood sugar emergencies…

I haven’t seen one in person yet (although I do plan a Kate Spade extravaganza when in New York next month so watch this space) but I am assured of the following details: the bag is made from metal, with an adjustable strap and a magnetic snap closure. The detailed owl features are gold-plated with 14-carats of the good stuff, and the lining (oh joy) is a delightful tango dot pattern (see above).

If it weren’t a bit much, the bag could look good with the Monsoon pear dress!
Maybe a future blog post: owls AND pears together… radical!
